2015 San Francisco / Bay Area Weekend Events: March 12-15

All Weekend: Annual Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam @ Various Locations
Youth Speaks, one of the leaders in Spoken Word performances, works with 45,000 teens annually and is a presenter of local and national youth poetry slams, festivals, reading series and more. Preliminaries take place in March followed by the semi-finals and finals, climaxing with the Grand Slam Finals at the Nourse Theatre on March 21. More info.

All Weekend: Jewish Music Festival @ Various Locations
Oldest festival of Jewish world music in the U.S. The 30th Jewish Music Festival takes place in Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco. Festival highlights include the World Premiere of newly-commissioned music by jazz bassoonist Paul Hanson; West Coast debuts by a Jewish-Christian-Muslim Israeli combo Diwan Saz, The Grammy-winning Klezmatics. March 12: Golden Gate Bridge Inside View: Art, Architecture, Photography | Free, 7-8PM
Bob David will recount his personal journey uncovering various historical, artistic, and architectural anecdotes about the bridge, some gathered first-hand from its creators when David helped curate the bridge’s 75th anniversary exhibit at the California Historical Society. His lively blend of stories and images will provide a unique perspective on this celebrated San Francisco landmark. More info.

March 12-22: CAAMFest @ New People Cinema & Various Theaters
CAAMFest is the nation’s largest showcase for new Asian American and Asian films; annually presenting approximately 130 works in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland. Since 1982, the festival has been an important launching point for Asian American independent filmmakers as well as a vital source for new Asian cinema. More info.

March 12-22: ODC/Dance Downtown @ Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater
ODC/Dance, San Francisco’s internationally acclaimed contemporary dance company, presents its 44th annual home season. Among the season highlights are Dead Reckoning, a world premiere by KT Nelson set to a commissioned score by Joan Jeanrenaud; the premiere of Brenda Way’s “The Invention of Wings,” and a work by New York-based choreographer and guest artist Kate Weare, titled “Still Life with Avalanche”. March 13: East Bay Bike Party | Free, Second Fridays 
East Bay Bike Party EBBP is a mobile party for riders of all ages, experience levels, and types, to meet, ride, and play together in the streets. Bike Party is a 100% volunteer organized event for and by bike enthusiasts, celebrating community and human power. Rides are casual, with party stops at public spaces along the 10-17 mile route. March 14: St. Patrick’s Day Parade | Second and Market to Civic Center
One of San Francisco’s largest annual parades and one of the longest-running parades in the U.S. is celebrated with live music, dance, beverages and traditional Irish cuisine. More info.

March 14: St. Patrick’s Day Festival | Free, Starts at Market & Second
The West Coast’s largest Irish event celebrating Irish history and culture, the 164th Annual San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, will take place on Saturday, March 14th at 11:30am. The Parade will start at the corner of Market and Second Streets where over a hundred colorful floats, Irish dance troupes and marching bands will wind their way to Civic Center Plaza. The popular Festival is back this year and will commence right after the Parade. Building on the success of the last several years, the organizers of the Parade and Festival are expecting another memorable event. More info.

March 14: Oakland County – St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Royal Oak
The parade is an event to honor and celebrate Irish family traditions to include demonstrating Irish pride and heritage. At 11:30 a.m., the parade of floats, clans, step dancers, bagpipers and community groups leaves Royal Oak Middle School, 709 N. Washington, and goes south on Washington to Seventh Street. More info.
