Cinco de Mayo is celebrated nationwide in the United States on May 5, and in Mexico. This special date is observed in this country as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

Mexican-Americans and Latinos alike take great pride in their roots and have acknowledged, generation after generation, that the United States’ prosperity depends in part on the incorporation of immigrants into its society, culture and economy while at the same time adopting its values and way of life.

Cinco de Mayo is an opportunity for Americans to come together in celebration and to acknowledge the many contributions made by Mexicans, Mexican-Americans and Latinos to the United States. This year’s awareness will focus on improving the health and quality of life of our community.

Talented artists will perform throughout the day on the main stage on the corner of Valencia & 24th Street. Food vendors will offer delicious, diverse foods. Additionally, approximately 50 other vendors will showcase their arts and crafts and empower our multi-cultural community through greater awareness of their products and services.

The Kid’s Zone will include a musical petting zoo provided by the Community Music School faculty and students which will allow the attendees to try out any of the following instruments: Latin Percussion, Guitar, Violin, Cello, Accordion, and trumpet! In addition the Kid’s Zone will also include a full day of arts and crafts including painting, beading, weaving with balloon art, magic tricks and lots of laughs with Spunky the Clown.
