It’s that time of year again—when toothy sharks and thirsty humans unite for a salute to brews with an aquatic twist: Sharktoberfest Nightlife!
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Pop-Up Beer Garden
6:00-10:00 pm, Sip your way through a pop-up beer garden with libations on tap from dozens of local breweries, including 21st Amendment, Ale Industries, Almanac Beer Co., Anchor Steam, CaliCraft, Fort Point, Golden State Cider, Lagunitas, Lost Coast, Uncommon Brewers, Magnolia Brewing Co., Marin Brewing, and more.
Plus, be sure to treat your tastebuds to NightLife’s first-ever signature craft beer Magnolia Aliciella Bitter, brewed with plant types found on the museum’s Living Roof!
Groove to German-techno classics mixed with disco and indie house from Push the Feeling DJs.
Shark Survivor & Conservation Talks
7:30 pm, Hear about the current state of shark conservation with Academy research associate and shark scientist Dave Ebert.
8:30 pm, Hear from Academy Research Associate and Director of Shark Stewards David McGuire, Skyler Thomas of White Shark Video, and shark attack survivor Erik Larsen.
Shark Trivia
7:00 & 8:00 pm, Try your hand (or fin) at shark-themed trivia with Ocean Research Foundation.
Shark Specimens
6:30-9:00 pm, Ever wonder if you can outsmart a shark? Compare the brains of sharks and humans with Stanford neuroscientist Dr. Tanya Evans.
Chat with the Academy’s resident fish guru Dr. Luiz Rocha as he shows off shark specimens from the Academy’s collection, and meet Academy librarian Kelly Jensen who will display the museum’s coolest and sharkiest artifacts.
Rub elbows with the ocean crusaders working to protect threatened shark populations from the Pacific Shark Research Center and Shark Stewards.
Shark Crafts
6:00-10:00 pm, No shark-themed party would be complete without a take home shark fin hat, courtesy of SCRAP!
Food & Drink
A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6-9:30 pm, including The Academy Cafe, The Terrace located in the West Garden, and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby.
Enjoy a different fresh seasonal “craft on draft” cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight!
